The Foundation has established relationships with educational and corporate institutions so that increased scholarships could be made available. The scholarships offered through this initiative currently include four to the University of Canberra, two to the Australian National University and one to the University of Wollongong. Scholarships are topped up by the Foundation to $3500 each. This level of grant will be annually reviewed inline with increased financial support.
These scholarships are in addition to those provided by the Foundation from its funds derived from other sponsors and donations.
Non-university grants are determined on an individual basis according to needs, such as attendance at TAFE involving travel and accommodation, cost of tools etc and the amounts granted vary, with the current average being about $1000.
The Foundation has recently introduced a scheme whereby it gives modest financial support to its awardees who are now entering their second year and, through no fault of their own, find themselves in financial difficulties. They have to apply to the Foundation in the normal way, having presented promising results from their first year.
Since inception the Foundation has made grants to 196 students totalling $558,500. Current target is 10 students per year, but with more financial support this can be increased. The level of grant at $3500 will be annually reviewed.
